Mphamvu  – Palm Leaf Pannier

Whether you’re dedicated to giving up the car and doing all your shopping by bike, or whether you want to look the part for your picnic in the park, these panniers are perfect for you. We’ve worked hard with basket makers in Malawi to develop these unique and clever palm leaf panniers and we think they’re the bees-knees. Designed to attach with your own preferred straps (our own recycled inner tube buckles, a traditional leather buckle or a nylon quick release) you can securely and easily attach these panniers to the rear carrier of your bike. The handles safely retract into the basket so they cannot get caught in your spokes. When you arrive, you can unstrap, pull up the handles and you’re good to shop, take your laptop into work, or frolic in a meadow with your tasty picnic!

Each basket measures 33cm high x 38cm long x 16cm wide (but measurements will vary slightly as they are all made by hand). Each buckle hole on the rear is 4cm wide and there is 18 cm between the holes.   Each strand of sustainably harvested palm leaf is careful woven together to make this basket one of the strongest you’ll find. It’s not waterproof so you’ll want to take care with it in the rain, we’ve tested it with the odd light shower, it dries out fine but you won’t want to leave it outside on your Elephant Bike in all weathers.
