About Pat Cawkwell
I’ve been a firefighter at Stafford fire station for 30 years, joining the service age 21 serving mainly on blue watch. Still loving the job working with a great team in a great place – Stafford. Always used the gym regularly mainly weight training and bodybuilding, I have competed in a natural (drug free) bodybuilding competition and strong man events…winning Stafford strongest man in 1992.
In later years I turned to more cardiovascular pursuits playing football for the successful hixon and Stowe team and rugby with Stafford. I began to enjoy running to keep fit and have completed 4 marathons including the London in 2005 raising money for katherine house hospice. More recently I began cycling and 1 day decided to cycle from Stafford to London via a canal route over 5 days.
A year later I discovered the amazing elephant bike and set my horizons further. 2 big trips in 2017.
First cycling from London to Paris…across to the west coast of France and back up to St.malo.
Secondly an overnight train journey down to nice…followed by a 1000km ride from Monaco to Barcelona on the elephant bike with guitar amp and tent over 12 days.
I began playing guitar at 21 and turned to a hybrid classical/contemporary style, fulfilled my dream of busking in my 40s spending a 2 month period travelling through France amd spainbusking in various cities including Paris, Bordeaux and Barcelona. While in the fire service I decided to take a sports degree studying on a part-time basis resulting in achieving 2.1 bsc honours degree in sports studies. I have 2 amazing sons Thomas and Jake who are 20 and 19. Thomas is currently studying for a civil engineering degree at loughborough university, Jake has been at college in the USA on a soccer scholarship and studying.
